Haiti Mission Trip Update by The Higgins'
Matthew 22:37-40 (New International Version)
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Late Monday evening, August 16, 2010, Rev. G. Walker, Bro. T. Boulware, Bro. T. Dorsey, Bro. H. Gibson and Bro. Anderson and Sister Anita Higgins left for Haiti.
"We were all very excited, yet apprehensive, not knowing what we would be facing." They found the country still suffering from the results of the earthquake. Tent cities were everywhere, providing little shelter and security. They saw many people barely surviving from lack of food and sanitation. However, they were made to rejoice when they arrived at the Mission House and found the 30 barrels, 2000lbs. of rice, 1000lbs. of pintos and 60 gallons of cooking oil they had shipped earlier waiting for them.
Even though 2 deaths among some they work with and some street work being done that prevented them from getting the truck out that they had planned on using to deliver the goods...God made a way for them to get everything delivered.
They held services in 4 different churches and visited several more. The attendance in all the Christian churches has nearly doubled since the earthquake and hundreds have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. They found out about 3 people who had accepted Christ while they were in Haiti.
They visited in 5 orphanages and in several villages. By God's blessings and the help of many friends in Prosperity, they were able to pack and give out at least 1500 care packs. Each pack contained a gospel tract entitled "The Way Of God", "How to Know God" or "Help From Above" in the Creole Language. They are believing that many who received a care pack will give their heart to the Lord.
They are planning another trip to Haiti next spring. Please pray with them for God's leadership and guidance.
In the meantime, and Lord willing, they are planning another trip to West Virginia in December. They will take good winter clothes, shoes, coats, blankets, quilts, toys and other needed items.
For the Haiti trip they are collecting nonperishable good items with good dates beyond March 2011. They also are in need of good summer clothing and shoes. They are asking for linens (sheets, towels etc...),soap, toothpaste, tooth brushes, wash cloths, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, Vaseline, over the counter non-aspirin pain medications, sewing items, sanitary napkins, school supplies and individually wrapped hard candy.
They are available to speak and share about their trips. All monies they receive in offerings go 100% into Haiti.
