Wound Care For An Extra Special Patient

In February 2007 - Nurse Janna & Michael conducted a medical clinic and this sweet man was a daily patient. His name is Xantus. He had a deep, nasty wound on his knee from a burn in 1982. Mike & Janna got him cleaned up and started him on antibiotics and had him come in daily for dressing changes & treatment.
We had a lot of patients with wounds at that particular medical clinic, but Xantus stood out to Michael. He is developmentally disabled and is not capable of making decisions for himself. His father takes care of him. However, he has a sweet smile and even sweeter spirit. He was a favorite patient and everyone was relieved when he responded to the treatment and his wound was much less severe by the time the team left.
For a long time, he wasn't seen around in the community and then one day in January of 2008 our friend Rusty saw him and his leg had become badly infected and he was in danger of
losing his leg. Rusty arranged for surgery & hospital after-care for him. He received IV antibiotics for 3 months.

In June 2008 he was the first patient that Michael saw when we arrived for a week of medical missions...
The work area was a folding chair, a school desk and a fan - outside on the back porch! The fan was to keep the flies off during the procedure.

Michael told the rep about Xantus and he donated this for his leg.
