Clothes For Haiti

I bought The Newberry Observer today and on the front page was an article about two ladies who are collecting clothing for Haiti. They are based at the thrift store "Unto The Least Of These" and as the article said, "piece by piece, locals help Haiti." I called the number that was listed to ask about getting some of the clothing for the orphanage...Dorothy Houseal said, "Yes I wanted to get in touch with you..." We talked for awhile and decided that one day next week I'll get boxes of clothing from them and have it sent to the Jacksonville Baptist Association's Haiti Storage Area which is at a local church in Florida.

On my first trip to Haiti, I was part of a group that organized the clothing closet. In the "Clothing room" there are foot lockers that are divided into sizes for boys and for girls. Each foot locker is filled with clothing that the teams bring down to Haiti. When a footlocker runs low on clothing, a message is sent to the next team and they pack that size clothing and take it to the children.

Having the clothing donations from the Newberry Community will be so helpful. All sizes of clothing have been donated and these boxes will go to the storage room that the JBA has for clothing. From there, when needed the clothing will be taken to Haiti. This will benefit the children at the orphanage for a long time and will also help the people in the community because all sizes have been donated. I'm constantly amazed at how God links us together with others who also have a passion for Haiti.

The children at Newberry Elementary collected clothing after the earthquake, but couldn't find any groups who were able to take it to Haiti. I was called to the school to pick up a sick child of a friend of ours. While I was at the school, I shared that Michael was going to go to Haiti. I was asked if we could use the clothing that had been collected! YES I said and soon had 7 trash bags of clothing in my garage. The winter clothing that had been donated was slated for sale at an upcoming garage sale the school was going to have. All of the money that was collected was going to be donated to Haiti! WOW there is no end to the creativity of people here in Newberry!!!
